In 2017, EQ-BOKU will be highly involved in the establishment of 3 new Core-Facilities. We are very proud to enable and support high-quality research by providing the state-of-the art equipment.

The first Core-Facility ‘Biomolecular Analysis’ will focus on the study of biochemical and biophysical properties of proteins as well as on kinetics and thermodynamics of interactions between proteins with ligands, proteins, lipids and carbohydrates. The combination of equipment and expertise will be unique in Austria and complementary to the existing Core-Facilities ‘Cellular Analysis’ and ‘Imaging Center’. Several companies are already interested in using the facility, thus we see a great scientific potential and a high use to capacity.

The research focus at the “Center of Preservation and Aseptic Processes” lies on the preservation of desired compounds (vitamins, proteins, pharmaceutical drugs) and the simultaneous inactivation of undesired ones (microorganism and viruses) using novel non-thermal methods. This topic has a high relevance in many industries, especially in the food & biotech industry, because thermal inactivation processes usually are costly and often lower product quality. Thus, a number of research & industrial partners are looking forward to the establishment of this center.

The third Core-Facility “Bioengineering” is a cooperation with the university of applied sciences and concentrates on the development of recombinant production processes with various cell factories. For these purposes a set of equipment is necessary like cell culture laminas, fermenters and affinity chromatographic systems using monoclonal antibodies. This resource will be especially attractive for start-ups because they can benefit from the expertise and the infrastructure at the same time.

About EQ BOKU GmbH: The EQ GmbH is an independent subsidiary of the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna. They rent out state-of-the-art scientific equipment on a pay-by-use basis to research organizations, companies and universities. Additionally, a full-service solution for the operation of all the scientific equipment is offered which are well-suited for projects in the areas of Chemistry, Biochemistry, Genetics, Cell biology, Biotechnology, Nanobiotechnology, Bioinformatics, Food sciences, Enzyme technology and water and sewage.
